ABOUT LORI NOZICK
Lori Nozick has a MFA from Pratt Institute in Visual Arts, and a BFA from (what was) Philadelphia College of Art in Fine Arts and Certification in Art Therapy.
The artist was born in the northeast US, lived in New York for 25 years, and Miami Beach with a studio in the Fountainhead Residency for eleven years. She recently relocated to Los Angeles and Palm Springs, CA. “I am an artist who finds 'home' in the environment I live and incorporate the particular elements in my art.” She has a grown daughter who works as an arts advisor and manager.
The artist has exhibited her work in galleries and museums, awarded public art commissions, and received international, national, state, foundation grants and fellowships for her work, including the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant, NYFA Rauchenberg Artist Grant, The Adolf and Esther Gottlieb Foundation, and others. Ms. Nozick has been commissioned for multiple permanent public art works in NY, WA, and FL, often engaging the community in the design and/or fabrication of the art. Her interactive large scale sculptures, both permanent and temporary invites the public into the piece itself, whether to walk through, or on, or climb stairs, and experience the artwork in a personal way.
Ms. Nozick was honored in 2006 for “Luce Et Vita Universae”, selected as one of the Best Public Art Projects of the Year by the Americans For the Art Public Art Review, commissioned by the NYC % For Art, Public Art In Public School/SITES Program, and the School Construction Authority.
Recently completed is a premier public art commission at the new Monroe County Courthouse in Islamorada FL, reflecting luscious environmental elements. The patinaed steel panels hang in the atrium lobby, creating a welcoming presence to visitors under stress.
Ms. Nozick created a light installation for the Bass Museum Contemporary Art In Unexpected Places in 2015, and invited to do a Featured Project at SCOPE Miami 2014; a monumental “folly” with reclaimed architectural elements, and an interactive 8’ curved staircase.
The artist has done several residencies, most international, and always created new work inspired by the location and environment but also by becoming involved with the local and visiting community, inviting students, residents, and visitors to participate or observe, and feel a part of the art process.
Ms. Nozick has been a university professor in NY, NJ, Miami, and Palm Desert, CA, primarily in Sculpture and Drawing, including in the Italy Program of American University, Wash. DC in Corciano, Italy. She also has a design business doing decorative and unique surfaces for public commissioned projects, residential and commercial spaces, as well as specialized items, including unique map drawings, textiles, working with business, museums, designers, and real estate developers.
Ms. Nozick was at the made_creatives Residency program in San Miquel de Allende, Mexico for the month of March 2025. She collaborated with the artist and director of the program to create a permanent sculpture installation,"Las Casitas de Colonia", and created a new body of works on paper, including photographs and collages. Exploring the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Site through its visual beauty, particular environment and landscape, taking ballet, and cultural exchange with residents and visitors brought it all to life.
